Our North Carolina Story
American Furniture, Personal Relationships, and a Tradition Worth Preserving
FurnitureMadeInUSA.com grew from decades of working alongside North Carolina manufacturers and a belief that furniture made by skilled American craftspeople deserves to have a place in American homes for generations.
How FurnitureMadeInUSA.com Began
My name is Stephen Horney. I am the owner of FurnitureMadeInUSA.com and Flat Top Computer Systems, our parent company. Long before we began selling furniture online, our work in the computer industry brought us into North Carolina furniture factories, where we provided computer systems and technology to manufacturers throughout the area.
Those relationships gave me the opportunity to see North Carolina furniture manufacturing from the inside and to get to know some of the people who had spent their lives building chairs, rockers, stools, tables, and other solid wood furniture.
One of those people changed the direction of our business.
Where the Chair Business Began
Remembering Bill Shaver
Bill Shaver owned Shaver Woodworks in Troutman, North Carolina, where he made some of the finest traditional ladder back chairs in the area. Bill became both a friend and a mentor to me, teaching me a great deal about the North Carolina chair business. More than once, he even tried to convince me to buy his company.
When Bill was 84 years old, I helped him build his first website so he could sell his chairs and stools online.
About a month after receiving that first online order, Bill passed away. His family continued Shaver Woodworks for roughly six months before eventually closing the business.
After Bill's passing, his family was not interested in continuing an internet furniture business. We took over the website we had created for him and eventually changed it to FlatTopWoodWorks.com.
I have never forgotten Bill or what he taught me. That friendship and mentorship are an important part of why we are still in the North Carolina furniture business today.
Relationships Built in North Carolina
From those early beginnings, we built relationships with furniture manufacturers throughout North Carolina, including companies in Troutman, Statesville, Yadkinville, and High Point.
Troutman Chair Company
Troutman Chair Company has been crafting chairs, rockers, stools, and other wooden furniture in North Carolina since 1924. We have worked with Troutman Chair since 1999.
Dixie Seating Company
Our history in North Carolina furniture has also included working with Dixie Seating Company of Statesville, a family furniture company with roots reaching back to the 1930s.
Uwharrie Chair Company
We began working with Uwharrie Chair in 2001 and became familiar with its distinctive solid pine outdoor furniture made in North Carolina.
Our Business Today
Still Close to the People Who Make the Furniture
Today, FurnitureMadeInUSA.com operates from Mocksville, North Carolina, in the heart of one of America's historic furniture-producing regions.
Being here matters. Our business was not created by selecting furniture from an anonymous overseas catalog. It grew through personal relationships with North Carolina furniture makers and years spent working with the people and companies behind the furniture.
That connection is one of the reasons we continue to believe strongly in American manufacturing and in supporting the craftspeople, workers, families, and communities that keep it alive.
Made in America Matters
Every American made piece represents more than furniture. It supports skilled workers, manufacturers, suppliers, families, and communities here at home.
Furniture Should Last
We believe good furniture should be made to be lived with, cared for, and passed down rather than treated as something disposable and replaced every few years.
Real Craftsmanship Has Value
Traditional joinery, solid wood, steam bending, handwoven seating, careful finishing, and skilled hands still matter. Those details separate lasting furniture from mass-produced alternatives.
Real People Should Stand Behind It
We want customers to know there are real people behind FurnitureMadeInUSA.com. If you have a question about a product, finish, order, delivery, or special furniture need, you can call us and talk to us.
We are proud of where this business came from and proud to continue working with American furniture makers. The furniture industry has changed tremendously over the years, but there are still companies in North Carolina building furniture the old fashioned way and people who care deeply about the quality of what they make.
Our job is to help connect those craftspeople and their furniture with customers who still appreciate something made well.
Thank you for visiting FurnitureMadeInUSA.com, and thank you for giving us the opportunity to earn your business.
